Most small businesses, ministries, and families do not have the resources to properly assess their technology options, troubleshoot problems, or keep up with the changes. There are a lot of bargain-bin, pre-packaged technology solutions available on the market – but the time, energy and resources needed to evaluate them is often never allocated. Fellowsheeptm fills that gap, and allows the client to focus their attention and energy on their mission. From parts to pixels, Fellowsheeptm Tech is your partner for purpose!

Concurrent Sessions in XP

A FellowsheepTechtm client recently had the need to replace a PC that was mostly used to host a database application which had to be accessed remotely. Once the new PC was in place, it seemed a shame to not be able to use it as an additional workstation in the office, but Windows remote desktop was used for remote users to access the hosted database application, and that mode is mutually exclusive. It may sound confusing, but it's not really.

When accessing a machine through remote desktop, a local user is kicked off, just like switching between local users. Isn't there a way for both to use the PC at the same time? Apparently MSFT thought so for a time, and experimented with it in SP2 development, but the capability was removed in the SP2 release.

Have no fear, intrepid techs to the rescue! Here are a couple links that describe how to hack XP Pro or XP MCE to allow concurrent remote desktop users:

Concurrent Remote Desktop Sessions

Enabling Multiple Remote Desktop Sessions
